Step 3 - Preparation
The substrate should be clean, free from laitance, oil, grease or other agents which may impair adhesion or drying. New concrete floors should be primed first with Resincoat Damp Proof Primer. Power floated floors should be Ground or blast-tracked. Open or porous substrates should be primed with Resincoat Deep Penetrating Primer. Step 4 - Mixing
Do not mix until fully prepared.Keep the paint at room temperature. Mixing the base paint (Part A) before adding the hardener (Part B), can improve the flow of the paint on application. Pour the hardener (Part B) into the base (Part A), as there is enough room in the base tin to pour the hardener in for mixing. Thoroughly mix the base and hardener. An electric drill with stirrer attachment is recommended.Clamp the tin whilst mixing to save spillage. Ensure the paddle is moved to the side wall of the tin to mix all material.Once the base and hardener are mixed, use immediately.
Step 5 - Application
Masking tape areas not to be painted. This will speed up ‘cutting in’. When mixed quickly cut in along the back wall with a paint brush, covering at least 60mm of the floor, and 2 metres down each side.Pour a line of paint across the floor a metre from the back wall. Use the Epoxy Roller (only use epoxy rollers as seen here) to spread the paint to the back wall and forward about a metre. Finishing with a roll in one direction.
The paint does not go on thick and needs to be worked to obtain good coverage. Coverage - 4-5m² / Kg depending on the porosity and texture of the surface. Pot Life - 10 minutes from mixing. Pay particular attention on warm days when the pot life will be shorter. Paint left in the tin will cure faster than paint spread onto the floor. Apply at the recommended coverage rate and in well ventilated conditions to give a good curing cycle.
Recoat within the full cure period.
Step 6 - Drying Times
At 20°C Re-coatable – 8 - 12 hrs or once surface has lost tackiness
Light traffic - 12 - 16 hrs
Full traffic - 24 - 36 hrs
Full chemical cure - Up to 7 days
Note: Lower ambient temperatures will results is slower curing times.
A bit about Temperature
The ambient temperature of the area should not be allowed to fall below 10°C throughout the application and the curing period. The surface temperature must be above 5°C. Where possible it is recommended that the application area is heated (do not use gas heaters, these form moisture in the air which will react with the Epoxy.) to a minimum temperature of 15°C to allow the ambient and substrate temperature to stabilise prior to installation. All figures are approximations at 20°C given as a guide and dependent on variables such as temperature, humidity, air circulation, etc.
Finally, please ensure you order enough paint for the job as shades can sometimes vary slightly between batches.
